The most interesting places in the region
Oponický Castle
Like many others, Oponický Castle was built in the 13th century as a guard castle for the protection of Nitra. The path to the castle is easy and can be easily managed by all ages. The marked trail leads directly from the village of Oponice.
Château Topoľčianky
The winery manages vineyards in both the Nitra and South Slovakia wine-growing regions. Thanks to its premium wines, it ranks among the elite Slovak wineries. Their wines have won numerous awards at home and abroad.
Zubria Zvernica
In the oak forests near Topoľčany you have a unique opportunity to see the European bison - the largest European mammal, a relative of the American bison. The bison menagerie is the only place in Slovakia where you can see it. The bison was once a natural part of European forests and was also found on our territory, even as late as the nineteenth century.
Zobor Monastery
The oldest and most valuable written documents from our territory - the Zobor Documents, dating from 1111 and 1113 - are also connected to the monastery. Thanks to a mobile application and 3D augmented reality technology, you can see the ancient form of the Zobor monastery and listen to a narration about it. You can also get a glimpse into the dwelling and life of a Camaldolese monk.
Kolárovo Ship Mill
It is a working replica of the water mill in Radvaň nad Dunajom, which burnt down in 1945 under mysterious circumstances. Nowadays, the building of the boat mill is used as a museum of water milling. A unique wooden bridge leads to the mill. The all-wooden colonnade pedestrian bridge is 86 m long and is one of the longest all-wooden covered bridges in Europe.
Rock dwellings in Brhlovce
The complex of rock dwellings carved into the tuff is a Slovak unique and precious jewel that is still unknown to many. These dwellings served as protection against the Turks and later as homes for the poor. Many of them are still inhabited today, others serve as outbuildings or wine cellars. Interestingly, they are cool in summer and warm in winter. The precious tufa dwellings are a reservation of folk architecture and one of the exhibitions of the Tekov Museum in Levice.
Arboretum Mlyňany
The whole area consists of five themed parts and its own nursery where you can buy the grown trees and flowers. Part of the arboretum is also dedicated to Slovakia and the part from the entrance to the mansion is dedicated to flowers and rosemary.
Ranch under Babica
The ranch is set in a pleasant environment, surrounded by forests near the village of Bojná. The biggest attraction is the mini zoo, where you will find more than 120 animals from 6 continents. Both experienced and inexperienced fishermen can relax while fishing. They will even prepare a tasty meal from your catch in the local restaurant overlooking the pond.
Hrušov Castle
Thanks to the easy trail, the castle can be easily reached by all ages. In the nearby meadow you will find a monument dedicated to T. G. Masaryk, who liked to visit Hrušov Castle. There are hiking trails leading to the castle from the village of Skýcov, and from Topoľčianky.
Levice Castle
The preserved ruins of the Gothic castle are the dominant feature of the town of Levice. The preserved part of the castle, the Captain's House, houses the Tekov Museum. There are exhibitions and a concert hall.
Vadas Thermal Resort Štúrovo
The largest thermal swimming pool in Slovakia in the town with the most sunny days in the year offers thousands of experiences all year round. The resort features eight outdoor and five indoor pools filled with thermal water with a total water surface of almost 10 thousand m2.
